A.L. Huber Strategic Process
All construction processes are not created equal. We have built a
strategic process on our core values. This strategy is designed to
ensure quality, create value for the owner, team and user, and promote
sustainability. Working together, making informed decisions and using
the right subcontractors is the A.L. Huber difference.
We believe pre-construction decisions determine 90% of the
project’s success.
We lead the owner and project team through the pre-construction phase.
Specifically, this includes analyzing the project in terms of
construction feasibility, possible economies, availability of labor and
materials, eliminating areas of conflict, and more.
During pre-construction, we will...
- prepare budget estimates and project schedules and present them in
an orderly manner
- utilize state-of-the-art software and leading-edge technology
- assist the design team in the building code review and permit
application process
- identify long-lead items and make arrangements to accommodate
them
- creatively perform value-engineering on all relevant issues
Subcontractor Selection
Selecting the right subcontractors for your project is one of the
most important decisions a general contractor makes. We do not take
this charge lightly. Subcontracts are selected on merit, quality,
integrity, honesty and value. A.L. Huber gains competitive edge
through selecting only pre-qualified bidders. The best team is the
only team you will get at A.L. Huber.
Construction
This is where we sweat the details. You will clearly see a
difference on an A.L. Huber job site: It is clean, it is safe and it
reflects sustainable practices. This is your investment, but we
treat it like our own. We are continuously stewards of your budget,
which is reflected by our proactive management on site. Our
superintendents and field team members take great pride in the
projects they build. The construction process and final product is
guaranteed to exceed expectations.
Estimating
Controlling costs begins with accurate estimating and budgeting.
A.L. Huber’s in-house cost-estimating department has
successfully provided accurate estimates for hundreds of projects.
We constantly monitor and update the budgets as the scope of work is
updated and documented. Our accounting systems combined with sharing
and communicating changing cost items will provide a professional
and well-organized system of managing fiduciary responsibilities
within the budget standards set by the Owner.
General Contractor
A.L. Huber is one of the oldest and most respected general
contractors in the Kansas City area. Our rock-solid business is led by
third-generation Huber’s. Approximately 75% of our projects are repeat
business from satisfied customers, and over 85% of our contracts are the
result of negotiations or only limited bidding. We have proven controls
and procedures in place, and have an outstanding track record of major
cost savings on many similar projects through constructability reviews
and value-engineering, while proactively controlling costs and
schedules.
Construction Management @ Risk
Construction management at risk, CM@R, approach produces a more
manageable, predictable project that can save time and money with
respect to design value as the team works together from start to finish.
CM@R is proven to be an extremely beneficial project delivery method
applying a contractor’s perspective and input to planning and design
decisions to ultimately add value to the project. CM@R creates a
collaborative project team all having personal interests, sharing
responsibility for all decisions—thus reducing risk for the Architect,
Engineers, the CM and, most importantly, less risk for the client. Our
open book approach means the results of all bids will available for
owner/architect/engineer review prior to final selection. All budgets
will be open book through the preconstruction process as well. A
distinct advantage of CM@R is the ability to fast track early components
of construction.
Design Build
Our philosophy for Integrated Project Delivery is based on our
ability to improve quality, lower cost, lessen delivery time, reduce
adversity and foster innovation and excellence in design and
construction. With A.L. Huber on the design-build team, you will rest
easy; confident that the team is working together, bringing the best
solutions to design and construction. We share the same high level of
commitment, quality and integrity as our design team members. We will
settle for nothing but the best!
Utilizing the Integrated Project Delivery method, your key contact
will be the construction project manager. You will ALWAYS be encouraged
to work with any of the team members as well, but utilizing one point of
contact encourages streamlined communications, thus lowering cost and
confusion.
Pre-Construction
A.L. Huber specializes in the pre-construction process. We examine
the project starting with constructability review, sustainability
review, followed by a scheduling and economies review. In the
pre-construction phase, our clients can expect accurate scheduling and
budgets, assisting the design team in the building code review and
permit application process, identification of long-lead items and
arrangements to accommodate these items. Throughout pre-construction, we
provide systems analysis to assist in creative design solutions.
We lead the Owner and project team through the pre-construction

construction feasibility, possible economies, availability of labor and
materials, eliminating areas of conflict, and more.

LEED Project Services
In every project we participate in, we find solutions that are
sustainable for the owners, the operators, and the environmental
footprint. We look at cost effectiveness of systems based on the
client’s ultimate project desires while giving the team succinct,
detailed pros and cons of operation and maintenance, looking well beyond
first cost. We research how the different systems will perform now and
for years to come. Our team evaluates performance in regard to the
facility maintenance, the occupants comfort and the environmental
impact. All of our research and input is for the consideration of the
design team and owner - we look to them for final selection of products
and decisions in the design process. We partner with trusted
subcontractors and vendors who are experts in their disciplines and have
valuable experience and feedback on equipment, systems and new
technology.
