Heartland Community Church
Olathe, Kansas
A.L. Huber was selected to repurpose an empty abandoned big-box
retail store into a sustainably focused church with room for growth.
The church’s "GO" mission states "More seats, spots and space to
advance our ability to 'build a church for the unchurched'."

Heartland had reached the point where they were out of seats
in their existing auditorium, parking spots near the building,
and space in the building for people to hang out and do life
together. So they found a new home that can help advance their
mission – a place where kids can be nurtured, teenagers can be
teenagers, and adults can connect and grow in meaningful ways.
They wanted a new facility to allow all of this to happen, and
more. This space allows for smaller areas for counseling, prayer
and discipleship, and larger rooms for team meetings, leadership
events and discipleship classes.
- 1,200 seats in the first phase auditorium, with space to add
more seats in the following phases
- Over 1,000 parking spaces, with overflow areas in adjacent
parking lots
- Over 111,000 square feet, with a 27' high ceilings and open
spaces
- An inviting and secure children's space, with check-in
auditorium and room for both large group and small group
activities
- Multiple youth rooms - for large group programming and
inviting spaces for small group breakouts
- Natural light flows through the length-of-the-building atrium
with square footage equal to the auditorium. Places for
connection with small groups and open air courtyards
- Small group rooms for connecting, plus a dedicated prayer room
