A.L. Huber retrofitted a new elevator to provide handicapped access to all levels of the early 1900s Second Presbyterian church building. New lobby areas with ample daylighting were created at multiple levels to create better flow across the facility and provide community gathering spaces. A new entry lobby was created by reconfiguring a number of outdated small classrooms and storage areas to improve wayfinding and access to the fellowship hall. Mechanical systems were updated during construction to minimize future disruption to church ministries and community events. A new “front porch” was added to welcome church members, visitors and passers-by alike. All work was completed while the church was fully occupied without interruption to services, daily functions or the church’s early childhood learning center.
